Onboarding Program

New employees to the district undergo a comprehensive orientation program that spans 2-3 days before the commencement of our school year in mid-August. Additionally, each new hire is assigned to participate in a book study this year, tailored to their specific role within the district.

• All new K-12 math teachers are reading "Building Thinking Classrooms." ​
• All special education teachers are reading "Executive Function Skills." 
• All other new hires are reading "Spirit Work: The Science of Collaboration."

Newly hired individuals with fewer than three years of experience will have the chance to participate in job-embedded professional learning teacher labs. In these labs, teachers will have the opportunity to observe their colleagues and engage in self-reflection regarding their own teaching practices. Educators will also learn instructional strategies from others, ask questions, collaborate on lesson planning, review research and communicate with curriculum coordinators.

For each new hire, a carefully selected mentor is chosen by their administrator to help them navigate through their first year in the district.

• If an educator has less than five years of experience, they are given a mentor for two more years.   
• If a new hire comes into the district with more than five years of experience, they will only have a mentor for their first year. 

Get the chance to mingle with each other by attending a district sporting event or theater performance after enjoying an evening on town for dinner as a group. This provides another opportunity to build stronger relationships between new hires.
