School Overview

Academic offerings: The Early Childhood Center offers full-day tuition based programs for children ages 18 months through 5 years old. Our school year program follows the HighScope curriculum, which aligns with the Early Childhood Standards of Quality for the State of Michigan. A strong foundation for school readiness, as it is designed to promote all areas of development including physical development, cognitive development, language/literacy/communication, interpersonal skills and relationships, creative arts, dramatic play and construction.

Consistent high achievement across all grade levels
The Center earned national accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children in 2001 and has maintained that accreditation ever since.
NAEYC accreditation is "regarded as the gold standard by parents, educators, and facilities: in early childhood programs.

Staff

Our exceptional staff remains committed to academic excellence and character education.

Vast majority of teachers/educators hold advanced college degrees.
Our teachers have been trained in early childhood education and understand that all children go through the same stages of development, but each child develops at a different rate.
In addition to planning classroom activities based on this comprehensive curriculum, teachers work to establish rapport with children and families and to create an age appropriate physical environment.

Philosophy

The Birmingham Public Schools Early Childhood Center is committed to providing a nurturing, secure educational setting for young children and their families. In a safe, age appropriate, engaging environment, children learn, explore, and make choices as they experience their world and its challenges. Our exemplary, play-based programs develop each child's unique potential. The process enhances physical, communication, emotional, social, creative, and intellectual growth. Staff and families continually work together to help young children achieve. Through character education, staff, children, and families, in partnership with the community, learn to value diversity and to foster individuality, self-confidence, love of learning, responsibility, positive attitude, and respect for themselves and others.
